Rev J W Simpson launches Spring Cocktail Menu

Marylebone’s favourite fun-loving Reverend has launched a sprightly new cocktail menu, and it’s as brilliant and boozy as you’d expect.

Leave your bibles and no-booze Christianity at the door – for those who’ve never ventured through this curious doorway in Marylebone, the eponymous Rev J W Simpson is no longer living on Goodge Street and following a brief stint as a house of ill repute, his former home is now an underground cocktail bar.

Brough to you from the boys behind Bourne & Hollingsworth, this intimate basement venue has maintained much of the Vicarage decor with chipped paint, worn wallpaper, and a stained glass door, with a few banquettes and tables thrown in for comfort.

Rev JW Simpson - Bar Shot

Dimly-lit, cosy interior aside, we’re here for the drinks. The cocktail list is concise but perfectly formed, just as you would expect from the B&H boys. Along with the usual classics, the new spring menu features boozy delights such as:

  • Gin Revisited – £10.50
The Reverend’s three day infused Sloe Berry Vodka, stirred with Sweet Vermouth and juniper branch smoked Vodka, served straight up with a mist of smoke.
  •  Aphrodite Sour – £9.50
Reposado Tequila shaken with elderflower and Amer Picon Club, balanced with lemon juice, livened with Bitters and lengthened with soda.
  • Piscita -£10.00
An effervescent mix of Pisco, shaken with Chamberyzette Vermouth, fresh strawberries and lemon topped with a sparkling PX Sherry Tonic.
  • Sanguine – £9.50
Summer in a long glass. Light Golden Rum shaken with peach and ginger, fresh pineapple juice and a home- made blood orange syrup.

Rev-JW-SIMPSON

All drinks are served in antique glassware by the expert staff, who will enthusiastically explain every element of the cocktail to you if you want, and they even throw in a paper bag of popcorn too. Rev JW Simpson have also recently launched Spirited Sermons, a series of masterclasses designed to educate and inspire London’s cocktail enthusiasts and aficionados on rare and forgotten ingredients such as mead, sherry, fortified wines, and brandy. Now that is a sermon we can stay awake for.

The spring cocktail menu at Rev J W Simpson is available from April 1st.
