Much like Halloween and the NFL, Thanksgiving is yet another American custom Londoners seem to have fully embraced. Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November (26th November this year), it is a time for families and friends to come together and share a meal – traditionally one consisting of roast turkey, cranberry sauce and an assortment of sides.
Perhaps it’s the result of all those years spent watching Friends, or maybe we’re just suckers for more turkey. Either way, we can’t wait to tuck into what these restaurants across London have on offer…
For this most beloved of American holidays, The Diner has gone all out and created a limited edition menu that will be available from November 26 to December 6 in all eight locations. Featuring Turkey Frito Pie, Fried Mozzarella Sticks, Waffle Gobbler Burger, Poutine and Thanksgiving S’mores, this is a feast not to be missed. Top tip: try the Gingerbread Man hard shake.

Looking for an authentic taste of New Orleans? Then this pop-up is the one for you. From November 25 to 27, the hugely successful Slap Ya Papa team will be serving up a ten-course menu with delights such as truffled brussel sprouts, candied yams, and even deep-fried turkey. So sip on a seasonal cocktail, and enjoy a special line-up of jazz, soul, and blues live band performances. Short of a plane ticket to NOLA, it’s the next best thing.

London’s new favourite chicken shop, Ma’Plucker, will be offering an alternative to turkey this Thanksgiving. Instead, they will be cooking their famous chicken and waffles. For those that haven’t tried this Deep South delicacy, it is buttermilk fried chicken served between two maple waffles, with chicken skin gravy on top. As an additional treat, they will also be making Ma’s pecan pie, but this will only be available on Thanksgiving Day itself.
Where: Ma’Plucker, 75 Beak Street, London, W1F 9SS
Proving that it’s OK to do just one thing if you do it really well, Melt Room is the grilled cheese sandwich shop selling – you guessed it – New York-style grilled cheese sandwiches. This didn’t stop them from coming up with a killer Thanksgiving menu though. The festive sandwich will consist of pulled turkey, roast sweet potato, stuffing, and Montgomery Jack cheese in between two pieces of sourdough bread – plus, a side of cranberry sauce.
